Tobias Kassung, born 1977 in Koblenz (Germany), started playing guitar at the age of seven. After being a pupil of Georg Schmitz for many years he studied at the Hochschule für Musik Köln with Prof. Hubert Käppel, where he graduated in 2003 with honours, receiving his Artistic Diploma. Tobias Kassung was awarded a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which enabled him to study with Simon Dinnigan at the Birmingham Conservatoire of Music between 2001 and 2002. He completed his musical training with Antigoni Goni at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel. He has attended various master classes including those of David Russell (UK), Costas Cotsiolis (Greece), Aniello Desiderio (Italy) and Roland Dyens (France).
Tobias Kassung is currently living and working in Cologne as a musician and composer. He is founder and Artistic Director of the Cologne Classical Ensemble. Between 2005 and 2008 he was appointed lecturer at the University of Cologne and since 2009 he is assistant teacher at the Koblenz International Guitar Academy. In 2009 he founded, with Hubert Käppel KSG Exaudio, a new label especially for guitar music. Concerts as soloist with the Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kölner Klassik Ensemble, the Astor Trio and in different duo combinations have led him through Europe, the United States, South America, Japan, Australia and the Arabian Peninsula. He has released recordings with Sony Classical and his own label and has been broadcasted on several TV and radio stations, e. g. ARD, WDR, HR, Bayrische Rundfunk and SWR. His arrangements and compositions have been published by Tonos (Darmstadt) and KSG Edition (Köln).
